- Programming Director
As The Thinker, Joe seeks to develop logical explanations for everything he interacts with. He loves the theoretical and abstract and he is generally interested more in ideas than in social interaction. He is quiet, contained, flexible, adaptable and has an unusual ability to focus in depth to solve problems. Interestingly, however, Joe is also a teacher at heart, and welcomes opportunities to share his expertise with those who have a strong aptitude but lack of experience in programming.
Joe is a native of Northeast Ohio. He and his wife, Michelle, have two sons in elementary school. When Joe isn’t spending time with his family or knee-deep in code for work or fun, he can be found at his local Taekwondo Dojang where he has been training for a long, long time. He's also an amateur tuba player, sketch artist, comic book aficionado, stealth humorist, and both student and master of anything he tries. He claims he’s an “agnostic” when it comes to bucket-lists, and instead focuses his energy on living mindfully in the present.
Joe studied Art Education at Case Western University in Cleveland. When he was pursued to “fill in the gaps” at a friend’s start-up, Joe stumbled upon his true calling: programming. “I learned how to make a cursor look like falling water, and I was like, ‘Yep, this is pretty cool. I want to do this.’” He started by simply playing with 3D modeling and adding silly effects to websites, but was soon eager to learn more. And so, he taught himself how to code. “There was a lot of opportunity for me to find out what I’m capable of in that way.” Though he’s now been programming for nearly 20 years, Joe has never stopped wanting to learn more and more. And while he loves this infinite potential and creativity web development allows, he’s come to enjoy the service it provides others more than anything else. “I love when I can spend only one hour doing a task that would take someone else 50.”
